My Trip in 1 Photo: Tadoussac, Quebec, Canada by Warren Prentice.
Tadoussac was the furthest North point we reached on a trip from the Boston area up into Canada's Quebec province, and also definitely the highlight. It is a lovely, peaceful village and a great base for whale watching.
What makes it different is that the water you see here is not the ocean. It is the St Lawrence River, which at this point is over 20 miles across, as wide as the English Channel. The ice cold waters of the Saguenay fjord meet the warmer, saltier ocean-influenced current of the St Lawrence right here, making it a great place for nutrients and the krill that feed on them. This means that, for whales, Tadoussac is a massive all-you-can-eat buffet.
If you're lucky you can spot Minke whales from the shore. Further out are Humpbacks and even the odd Blue Whale. All this, in a river.
